Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, new regulations from the Kentucky Department of Education will affect how schools administer over-the-counter (OTC) medications to students. These changes require that schools have a written order from a doctor or other licensed medical provider, along with signed parental permission, before giving any OTC medicine such as ibuprofen, cough drops, or antacids to a child.

The department suggests parents bring the necessary form to their child's next medical check-up for the doctor's signature to streamline this process.
