Last week, Union County Public Schools educators Margie McGraw and Nichole Thomas visited the state capitol in Frankfort to advocate for career and technical education. Both educators are part of the Kentucky Association for Career & Technical Education (KACTE) Leadership Fellows program.
During their visit, they met with Representative Jim Gooch and Senator Robby Mills to express gratitude for increased state funding for career and technical education (CTE) and shared how these funds have been used to enhance career pathways at Union County High School. McGraw and Thomas highlighted the growing demand for skilled workers and the importance of hands-on training for students. "Our conversation reinforced how CTE equips students with essential skills that align with industry needs, ultimately strengthening the workforce," Mrs. McGraw stated.
Additionally, McGraw and Thomas were recognized in the House of Representatives as KACTE Leadership Fellows. Justice Shea Nickell provided them with a tour of the Supreme Court Courtroom. They also received The House of Representatives Citation of Appreciation from JT Payne, House Representative and Henderson CTE Assistant Principal, acknowledging their efforts in raising awareness about the benefits of CTE to the Commonwealth.
The contributions of Mrs. McGraw and Mrs. Thomas continue to promote career and technical education within their county and throughout Kentucky.
