Union County High School's football team, the Braves, has advanced to the state semifinals after winning the 2024 KHSAA Class 3A Region Championship. The team secured a decisive victory against Hart County Raiders with a final score of 41-21. This win avenges last year's defeat by Hart County in the regional finals.

The Braves started strong, taking a 21-0 lead in the first half with touchdowns from Caton Wilson and Jarren Johnson. Johnson contributed significantly with two touchdowns, including a notable 75-yard run. Before halftime, another touchdown pass from Johnson to Koleby Schroeder extended their lead to 28-7.

In the third quarter, Union County continued to dominate as Johnson scored two more touchdowns, one from a single-play drive covering 51 yards. Despite Hart County's efforts, adding two touchdowns later in the game, Union County maintained control throughout.

Jarren Johnson was pivotal in this match-up, contributing four rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown while accumulating an impressive total of 283 rushing yards and 98 passing yards. The team's overall performance resulted in a total of 372 rushing yards.

Coach Derek Johns attributed this significant victory to his team's dedication during practice sessions and film studies. He stated that it is "the program’s most significant win in recent history." This success marks Union County's first appearance in the state semifinals since 2008 and will be their first time hosting such an event at home. They are set to face Belfry High School on Friday night at Baker Field.

The community is encouraged to support the Braves as they continue their pursuit of excellence.
