Dolly Parton celebrates statewide coverage of imagination library in Kentucky

Rhonda Gibson-- Administrative Assistant | Union County Public School

Dolly Parton visited Kentucky this week to mark the expansion of her Imagination Library into every county in the state. During her visit, she met with representatives from local Imagination Library programs to emphasize the importance of growing the initiative. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library offers a free book each month to children from birth to age five, aiming to foster a love for reading and enhance early literacy skills among preschoolers.

Union County is one of 124 local programs across Kentucky participating in this initiative. The Union County Imagination Library has been operational for over 20 years and has reached more than 3,000 participants during that time. Currently, 485 children in Union County receive books each month through the program.

Evan Jackson, coordinator for UC Imagination Library, and Christin Jackson, a preschool reading interventionist in Union County, attended the event to learn best practices for managing the program.

"We thank Dolly for her vision and all the generous donors who make the program possible!" said representatives from Union County's program.
