Union County Public Schools has announced that five of its schools have been recognized as America's Healthiest Schools for the 2023-2024 school year. The honored institutions include Morganfield Elementary, Sturgis Elementary, Uniontown Elementary, Union County Middle School, and Union County High School. These schools are among 879 nationwide to receive this recognition from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
This marks the first time all eligible schools in Union County Public Schools have achieved this distinction. The award highlights their commitment to student health and well-being by promoting essential health policies and practices. Key areas of focus include Family and Community Engagement, Nutrition and Food Access, Local Wellness Policy, and Physical Education and Activity.
Superintendent Dr. Terra Hancock shared her enthusiasm about the achievement: "We’re thrilled that every eligible school in our district has received this national recognition,” she stated. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our school communities."
The recognition program is one of the longest-running initiatives honoring schools for supporting whole child health equity across students, teachers, and staff.
Shane Bosaw, UCPS Director of Food Service and Wellness, also remarked on the importance of these awards: “Healthy schools are the foundation of successful learning,” he said. “When we foster a safe, supportive, and healthy environment, we enable our students to excel both academically and personally."
